UHF RFID Standards

UHF RFID is comprised of a set of standards defining the working interaction of the technology from the physical layer through the communication, data formatting and application layers. These standards ensure that UHF RFID tags, UHF RFID devices and UHF RFID software from different manufacturers can work interoperably. Most standards are governed by the ISO or GS1.

ISO/IEC Standards

ISO defines several standards that apply to UHF RFID chips and devices:

  • ISO 18000-V1 (Generic Air Interfaces)
  • ISO18000-V6 (Air Interface 860 MHz – 960MHz)

GS1 Standards

GS1 defines various important standards related to UHF RFID tags, devices and software:

  • EPC Tag Data Standard (TDS)
  • EPC Tag Data Translation (TDT)
  • EPC Global Tag Classes
